• TinkerKit Tilt Sensor Module

The TinkerKit Tilt Sensor detects whether the board is in an horizontal position or not.

Tilt sensor internally contains a small metal ball. When in upright position, the ball makes the bridge with 2 contacts and outputs 5 V. When tilted, the ball moves, opens the circuit reducing the output voltage down to 0 V. Once connected to a TinkerKit Sensor Shield, horizontal position is converted to a value of 1023 while tilted is 0. Like many other TinkerKit module, a yellow LED shows module activity i.e. tilt sensor activity (lights up when the sensor is horizontal).

This TinkerKit module is a sensor meaning that the standard TinkerKit 3 pin is an output that must be connected to a TinkerKit Sensor Shield input with a 20 cm, 50 cm and 100 cm cable.

As with any other TinkerKit module, a green LED indicates that the module is properly powered.

Programming the TinkerKit Tilt Sensor

Here is a simple program that will lights a LED connected to TinkerKit Sensor Shield output O0 when tilt sensor (attached to input I0) is horizontal. Can it be more simple!

#include <TinkerKit.h>

TKTiltSensor tilt(I0);
TKLed led(O0);

void setup() {

void loop() {
    if (tilt.get() == HIGH) {
    } else {
